Thus Spoke the Marble: The Journey Alters You

The designers, including Demirden, who also curated the exhibition, Werner Aisslinger, Emre Arolat and Can Yalman exhibited their works on Anatolian marbles in the “Thus Spoke The Marble: The Journey Alters You” exhibition.

The exhibition was presented to visitors by the Istanbul Mineral Exporters’ Association (IMIB) and the Aegean Mineral Exporters’ Association (EMIB) during Milan Design Week, one of the most important design events in the world in 2012.

The installations by the participating designers visualized the emotional processes we experience in our life journey with his designs.

Thus Spoke the Marble: The Journey Alters You was built across platforms, each carrying an installation, and linked by pathways, representing the metaphor of the inner journey.

The projects exhibited included a ‘Marble Rosarium’ by Berlin-based architect and designer Werner Aisslinger, a stunning arrangement of marble slabs crafted into the shape of flowers and combined into a playful secret garden space.

With this design, Aisslinger  says, the assemblage can be read as an abstraction of natural and organized archetypes like a beehive.

The construction method is based on a simple weaving technique similar to children’s toys.

The installation has a diameter of 2.5 m, where the spherical gazebo sits on an area of 3.2 x 3.2 m. the modules are constructed from 2 cm thick white Kavaklidere marble and then are sandwiched with a 0.5 cm piece of aluminum slab in the middle. The pieces are then put together.

The parts have an overall diameter of 40 cm and weigh approximately 10 kg. The 200 units are then knitted together making the entire structure almost 2 tones.
