French designer of Italian descent, Pierre Gonalons, presents his designs with an artistic aesthetic by merging geometric forms and colors with traditional materials. He stands out for his furniture and lighting designs that personalize spaces and leave a strong impact. Drawing inspiration from art history and decorative arts, he brings traditional materials into the contemporary realm, creating a connection between the past and the present, as he describes it. While authorities recognize his design language as minimalist, it is evident that he offers a maximalist design quality through the bold colors, patterns, and striking forms he employs.

Between Minimalism and Maximalism: Gonalons' Unique Design Language

Interior architect and designer Pierre Gonalons, who has lived in Paris for many years, developed an interest in art history and French cultural heritage at a young age. His Italian roots and fascination with French aesthetics were key factors that shaped the direction of his design talent early on. After graduating from the Camondo School, he immediately showcased his unique interpretation of design and space. At just 23 years old, he established his creative studio. This bold stance opened doors for collaborations with prestigious brands such as Lalique, Chloé, Pierre Frey, Nina Ricci, Pernod, and Weston, while also enabling him to create limited-edition designs for international galleries. He became the art director for the historic Italian design publisher Paradisoterrestre and collaborated with several Italian brands, including Ceramica Bardelli and Masiero. Recognized as one of the top 100 designers by AD magazine in 2019, Gonalons participated in the AD Intérieurs exhibition that same year. As a result, Pierre Gonalons' works were featured in significant publications across various international magazines. The designer garnered extensive coverage in the international press, highlighted by comprehensive articles in magazines such as AD, Elle Décoration, Interni, Icon Design, and Departure. His creations prioritize traditional materials and craftsmanship while maintaining a balance between simplicity and grandeur.

Designs Inspired by Tradition and Nature

Gonalons advocates for a minimalist design that references decorative arts and pop culture. The designer builds a minimalist yet grand language in his designs, showcasing his admiration for tradition through the natural materials he employs. The marble forms frequently used in his furniture designs are a reflection of his interest in natural and traditional materials, which shape his design language. His exclusive collections and limited-edition furniture are exhibited around the world.

A Surrealist Collection: The Other Side

Pierre Gonalons’ The Other Side collection, designed for Paradisoterrestre, captivates with its inspiration. Drawing from curves, the other side of objects, and their unseen aspects, the collection explores a symbolic and poetic concept that transcends form. It references Italian Baroque, illusion, and surrealism while also viewing the curve as a metaphor for the soul, as defined by Deleuze.

The designer has utilized 'Vert d'Estours' and 'Petit Antique' marbles, extracted from quarries in the Pyrenees region of France since ancient times, in the collection, which is produced in a limited run of just 12 pieces.

One of Pierre Gonalons’ most impressive works, which transforms spaces into art pieces with his designer furniture, was showcased during Paris Design Week as part of 'Maison Objet' 2020 in 'Hôtel de Soubise', a historic and unique mansion located in the Le Marais district. The exhibition installation became a true work of art, merging Gonalons' striking furniture with the atmosphere of the historical venue.

Gonalons' Nostalgic and Majestic World

Pierre Gonalons opened a gallery in 2019 next to the Louvre Museum, showcasing his furniture designs in the heart of old Paris. This doorway into the designer's majestic world is located in 'Galerie Véro-Dodat,' one of Paris’s covered passages lined with chic boutiques, serving as a vibrant testament to the designer's commitment to cultural heritage due to its proximity to the Louvre and its historical significance. Drawing inspiration from history and traditions, Pierre Gonalons presents a simple yet grand world in his gallery, featuring elegant and modern designs born from the contrasts between ideas and materials.
