Respect to the stone: Camota House

The architectural office Dom Arquitectura, redesigns an old house on the river bank of Carnota, Spain. While respecting its existing volumes and mantaining the existing stone facade, the project offers a new living space for its users in the ambiance of the colors of nature and earth.   It was aimed to make natural light leak into the rooms by making openings with iron frames strategically located on the southern facade.

The architects had to repair certain parts of the southern façade that was damaged due to the constant moisture by applying a protective plaster. Large stones around the windows have been preserved, so that both interior and exterior surfaces dramatically reflect the contrast of the old and the new.

Inner stone walls are also restored and mantained as they are combined with mustard colored mortar on the ground floor and adapted to new architectural furniture and details. As a result: a balanced inner surface that reflects the harmony of mortar ocher and stone colors.
