Converting a Stone to a House That Adapts All Seasons

Jurek Brueggen and Sebastian Sailer have converted a stone found in Werder, Germany, into a house designed to adapt to all seasons. The structure, which located on a hillside between four houses with different architectural styles, consists of wooden expansions added to the hollowed-out concrete body.

Designers have focused on how the structure will conserve resources while living a sustainable life with the environment, unlike the energy-efficient homes, which designed with the traditional style far from the current architectural texture of the environment.

Residents live on the ground floor in winter, and in summer, they have the opportunity to experience the structure with a terrace and kiosk that doubles the floor area. The building reduces the living space during the winter season, allowing the user to save on construction and heating costs. The high room temperature of the heated ground floor makes it possible to use the pavilion as a winter garden for terrace plants during the cold season.

Designed using all building materials in its natural state, the house offers us one of the best examples of modern and functional architecture with its adaptability to the needs of the user.
