Conversion of Old to New: Casa Madriguera

The Madriguera House was designed in 2018 by the Spanish design office – Lado Blanco Arquitecturas to be used as a weekend resort in the Spanish countryside surrounded by mountains and rivers.

During the construction phase of the building, stone and roof tiles recycled from old, derelict buildings were blended in harmony with the local materials, and a successful dialogue was established between the new building and the existing materials.

The designer says that Madriguera House is a personal project designed for people who desire to calm down, slow down the pace of life and realize the small details around them and enjoy them. The designer states that they aim to obtain reflection areas from every existing area in the design, and also says that they wants everything seen in the building is real. Therefore, he says that he chooses to use natural materials in the structure and that the use of natural materials helps people who use the house and spaces and structure to connect with the landscape.

The project set out with the goal of calmness offers a simple layout away from the crowds, which is enough to meet the daily needs of two people. The open plan allows all spaces to connect with each other visually and the landscape also.
