Candle holders carved from 500 million years old stones

The candle holders, called `` snug '' by Sanna völker, were inspired from the work of the stone masters who created their craft for four generations. These 500 million years old pieces were selected by the designer herself among natural stone residues extracted from a quarry in a small mountain village.

The aim of the designer in the project is to glorify the quality of the material used in local crafts and rethink the emotional value that comes with it. The essence of the design is the material itself, expressed in a minimalist language.

Natural stone is created and shaped by history through changing continents, seas and earthquakes. Some tell their stories from overlapping layers of earth, and some from fossils. The designer merges two candles with the stones as a brutal but sensitive intervention. As the natural stone wraps the candles, the concepts of workmanship, sustainability and transparency are emphasized.
